New Law Provides Opportunities for Mental Health Diversion

AB 1810 (15) was a significant change to CA state law, creating new opportunities for justice system-involved individuals living with mental illness. The new law provides a pathway for individuals with behavioral health conditions to enter a mental health program wherein, upon successful completion of this program, the charges will be dismissed.

County behavioral health departments and outside treatment organizations are working diligently with justice partners – including judges, district attorneys, sheriffs and public defenders – to establish local programs to help implement AB 1810.

With the right supports and services, individuals experiencing serious mental illness can live in the community and receive appropriate treatment outside criminal justice settings.

Treatment Plan Monitoring

Utilizing the latest technology in monitoring, OPTIONS Case Managers provide accurate and reliable monitoring of the
client’s full treatment plan. Contact with the client is managed using the InTouch by TrackGroup application on the
client’s phone. Alcohol and location monitoring provided by DMS using the SCRAM devices. Drug patches test for the
use of illegal drugs, while treatment plan medications are monitored by personal interview and counsellor mandated
blood or urine screenings.
