Celebrating Alcohol Awareness Month

Tips and Activities to Bring Awareness to Alcohol Use Disorder

April 2019 is recognized as Alcohol Awareness Month.  This year’s theme is “Help for Today, Hope for Tomorrow.”  Throughout the next few weeks local, state and national organizations have teamed up to provide resources for people suffering with alcohol use disorder.  Alcohol Awareness Month was established to help educate people young and old about the importance of drinking in moderation or abstaining from alcohol completely.

Friday April 11, 2019 is National Alcohol Screening Day.  The day is sponsored by Screening for Mental Health, Inc. to help raise awareness about harmful drinking.  You can take an anonymous screening at howdoyouscore.org.  The screenings are broken down by state and can help you determine if you should seek professional help to deal with unhealthy drinking behaviors.  Mental health has proven to play a huge role in addiction.  Getting a mental health screening can help you deal with any underlying addictions to drugs or alcohol.

It is the hopes of organizations like Screening for Mental Health, Inc. and Facing Addiction with NCADD (the founder and sponsor of Alcohol Awareness Month) that providing resources and information to the public will help eliminate the stigma associated with addiction and encourage people to get treatment.  Colleges, churches, treatment centers and organizations across the country have united for this cause.  Find activities in your area and join the cause.
