Law Enforcement Agencies Across the State Announce Saturation Patrols and Checkpoints for Independence Day
Law enforcement agencies across California have announced plans to add additional officers on the roads. Officers will be looking for both drug and alcohol impairment. While several checkpoints and saturation patrols were conducted Friday, July 2, and Saturday, July 3, there are still more to come.
DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint
According to the Benito Link, The Hollister Police Department announced that they would be conducting a DUI/driver’s license checkpoint on July 4, 2021, at an undisclosed location within the Hollister city limits. The checkpoint will occur between 6:00 pm and 1:30 am. The police department will have saturation patrols throughout the holiday weekend.
Officers will not only be looking for alcohol and drug impairment but also checking whether drivers are properly licensed. Driving on a suspended license and driving without a license are serious offenses that can carry heavy fines, a further license suspension, and jail time depending on the charges.
Los Angeles Saturation Patrol
CBS Los Angeles reports that the Los Angeles Police Department will have extra officers on the roads throughout the July 4th weekend. The LAPD has planned a DUI saturation patrol between 12:00 pm and 8:00 pm in the foothill area according to the report.
Impaired Driving
Driving under the influence is not limited to alcohol. All law enforcement agencies conducting checkpoints and saturation patrols have issued reminders that driving while impaired can include alcohol and drugs. Common drugs which lead to an arrest for impaired driving include marijuana and prescription medications.
