Celebrating the New Year with Options
For some New Year’s celebrations and alcohol go hand-in-hand, but they don’t have to. Alcohol does not need to be the central part of any celebration. Recovery organizations across the nation have recognized the need for sober options for those who want to celebrate the holiday without the temptation and pressure of alcohol. Events like Sober Eve focus on fun without alcohol including dancing, photo booths, and live music. In lieu of alcohol, mocktails are served and a coffee bar is provided. The event is for people 16 and up and has a strict no drugs or alcohol policy.
Sober communities across the country have started offering events that focus on recovery and rehabilitation. A great place to look is at local churches and recovery centers that often offer free events. For SoCal residents, the Shelby in Carson, California offers a 2019 Sober New Years Eve Affair with complimentary appetizers, desserts and a Martinelli’s toast at midnight.
New Year’s Eve Party Alternatives
If you don’t feel up for a night out consider party alternatives such as bowling, a nice dinner, cozying up for movies and popcorn or an outdoor adventure. Game nights are a great way to spend an evening away from the temptation of alcoholic beverages. Remember fun does not have to center around alcohol. Make a new tradition this year, watch the ball drop on tv, binge on some great TV or consider a number of family-friendly options that cater to those not interested in drinking.
